WHO AM I?

Maya P. Yette

Hi! I'm Maya. I have a weakness for bookstores, Beyoncé, and a little white dog named Cooper.  I grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C. I spent the last year traveling and writing about the world through Remote Year (read all about it here).

My background is in communications and journalism, but after graduating from Wake Forest University in 2009, I headed to Harvard Law School. When I graduated from Harvard in 2012, I returned to the Washington area and, until I left to participate in Remote Year at the beginning of 2016, I spent a few years practicing corporate law at a major Washington, D.C. law firm.

Even while I was practicing law, I was drawn to projects that involved issues and people from around the world.  I never say “no” to a trip, whether it's to New York for the weekend or around the world for a year.  I’ve had so many incredible travel experiences already: a middle school homestay in Madrid, Spain; a high school “rites of passage” trip to Ghana; a college study abroad program in Salamanca, Spain; a law school spring break trip to Ethiopia; family trips to Europe, the Caribbean and Australia; safaris in South Africa; a post-bar exam trip throughout Southeast Asia; girls' vacations in Miami, Mexico and Montreal; and a solo trip to Nicaragua.

I’m looking forward to many more adventures and I’d love to connect with you along the way!
